Lazy Navy

It doesn't seem possible that the Lazy Navy has been afloat for nearly 4 years.

When Joe and Ray White talked about starting a kayak club one afternoon last July- with the temperature at 103 - one of the concerns was whether people would attend meetings and social functions during the months when the weather was too cool for actually getting out on the water.  They shouldn't have been worried. The winter meetings - and especially the Christmas cookouts - have been great.

The club membership continues to grow and we welcome members of all ages and skill level.  Many of the club members took their first paddle with the club.

Each year the Lazy Navy participates in the Murrells Inlet spring tide event.  The Lazy Navy paddles the south end of the Inlet picking up litter.  It never ceases to astound us how people can throw so much litter into this valuable natural resource.

Notable past paddles include

Our first paddle.  Against a 25 knot wind and strong current.  This led to the decision to call ourselves the Lazy Navy and seek to paddle with the current whenever possible.
Trip to Bull Creek aboard Bob and Jan Kohm's 36 foot trawler.  The picture of all of the kayaks trailing behind their boat is unforgettable.
Trip down locks at Lake Moultrie and then down the Tail Race Canal.
Paddle on Black River and Overnight at Hunting Lodge
Paddle to "Shell Island" off the coast at McClellanville.  Fantastic Shelling.
4th of July paddles at Pawleys Island to watch/participate in the annual Boat parade.
No Octane Regatta in NC - a little more competition than normal.  True to our name we captured most the last place positions in the boat race.

More notable paddles are just coming up.
